Pelicans trade rights to 56th pick Michigan State F Dawson

The New Orleans Pelicans traded the rights Thursday night to its only NBA draft pick.

The Pelicans selected power forward Branden Dawson from Michigan State with the 56th pick before team officials said they sent his rights to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash.

The former Michigan State forward played four years under coach Tom Izzo, and averaged 11.9 points and 9.1 rebounds as a senior, earning All-Big Ten second team honors.

Michigan State guard Travis Trice was not chosen in the draft and will look to join a team through free agency.
