FDA Says No More Trans Fats

The FDA wants Americans to stop eating trans fats.

They decided to ban the substance used a preservative and to replace saturated fats.

Trans fat is associated with health risks like bad cholesterol, type two diabetes and increased risk of heart disease.

It’s been listed as a separate item on food labels since 2006, but now the FDA wants it removed from the American diet.

One local restaurant says it’s no longer necessary anyway.

“Food science has evolved to where they don’t need to do that quite as much. There are ways around it and I think they’re going back to more organic, you know the simpler ways.”

The FDA says food manufacturers must phase out trans fats over the next three years.
