Cherished American Monument Celebrates Big Birthday

Wednesday, marks a big birthday for one of america’s cherished monuments.

130 years ago today, the Statue Of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor.

She was packed in 214 crates and arrived by ship.

The french gave her as a gift to the United States, meant to mark the country’s 100th birthday, but the sculptor didn’t finish her in time for the 1876 celebration.

The statue was dedicated on October 28th of 1886.

And was designated a national monument in 1924.
