Jack’s Journal: G.T. Butterfly House and Bug Zoo

It’s good to have a dream. Now most dreams don’t usually include bugs. But in this case, bugs are the center piece. With a zoology degree, along with a degree in business Cyndie Bobier had many jobs, but her dream was always burning. Last fall, the dream became reality when she, along with her fiance Rob, opened the .

"The concept is, if you don’t learn about a species, how can you possibly care about it or work to conserve it?" says Cyndie.

Cyndie doesn’t just want to show off pretty butterflies she wants one and all to learn about them, like the disappearing habitat for the monarch butterfly. Or that bee’s are the number one pollinator. How about one in four bugs is a beetle?

"We have everything from honey bees, cockroaches. We have a tarantula tree full of tarantula’s from around the world. Praying mantis, different species. Frogs, centipedes, millipedes. The list goes on and on."

She and Rob have designed and built everything, they put their heart and soul into this. From the usual start up issues, to dealing with an unusual stock. They also had to process 400 permits and endure four federal inspections. As a cricket once said, when you wish upon a star………

"Huge leap of faith. But when you have people come in and shake your hand and look you in the eye saying you’ve done good, and these are total strangers coming into our facility and thanking us repeatedly, it’s not only humbling but it tells us that we’ve achieved a really monstrous goal."
