Upper Peninsula School Builds Boat For Navy

An Upper Peninsula school with a once in a lifetime opportunity, to build a wooden boat for the Navy.

The U.S. Navy is commissioning the Great Lakes Boat Building School in Cedarville to build a 32 foot boat.

They’re building it for the Boston based historic USS Constitution.

It’s the oldest warship still afloat.

The school says it’s an honor.

“It’s pretty rare that the Navy commissions a wooden boat and yeah I think it’s pretty significant, not only that they commissioned a boat but that they asked us here in Michigan to do it,” said Patrick Mahon, from the Great Lakes Boat Building School.

The boat will be used by the crew while the Constitution is docked.
