Defense Secretary Makes Statements About Iraqi’s Will to Defend Themselves
Defense Secretary Ash Carter, making frank statements about the Islamic State group’s takeover of Ramadi.
He says even though Iraqi forces vastly outnumbered their opponents, they failed to fight and pulled back.
Carter then went on to say the U.S. can provide training, weapons and air support in the fight against ISIS, but the Iraqi forces have to be willing to fight for their country.
“They were not outnumbered, in fact, they vastly outnumbered the opposing force. That says to me, and I think to most of us, that we have an issue with the will of the Iraqi’s to fight ISIL and defend themselves.”
Carter’s comments are on CNN’s State of the Union from Sunday.
