Tree Killing Bug Removed From Emmet County

A tree killing bug has been removed from a Northern Michigan county.

The Hemlock Wooly Adelgid is a small insect that sucks sap from Hemlock trees.

It was detected in Emmet county in 2006.

The director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture says all of the infested trees have been removed and destroyed.

And that nearby trees were treated with pesticides.

Hemlock trees provide a habitat for birds, deer and fish.
