Alabama Judge Sentences Woman to Life in Prison After Granddaughter’s Death
A judge sentenced an Alabama woman to life in prison without parole after her nine year old grand daughter died after she collapsed from running.
The judge handed down the sentence Monday.
Nine year old Savannah Hardin died just three days after she collapsed from running in 2012.
Prosecutors say her grandmother, Joyce Garrard made the girl run for hours as punishment for lying about candy.
The grandmother says she didn’t mean to harm the child.
She told jurors the girl ran to practice for a race at school.
