Update: Closing Arguments Begin in 1989 Newaygo County Cold Case Trial

Continuing coverage today on the newaygo county cold case murder trial.

Brothers, Paul and Matthew Jones are accused of killing Shannon Siders in the Manistee National Forest in 1989.

Closing arguments started today in the trial for a 20 year old Newaygo County murder.

It’s a story we have been following since the trial began almost three weeks ago.

It was a heated morning in the courtroom.

The trial was originally scheduled to run two weeks.

Now they’re three days over because the judge denied the defense’s request for a mistrial.

The request came after a video taped interview with one of the brothers from 2012, accidentally played.

In the recording, Paul Jones never admitted to knowing how Siders was killed or who had killed her.

The judge ruled the evidence in the video did not hold up the rules for a mistrial.

We’ll continue to follow this cold case trial throughout the closing arguments and jury deliberation.
