Traverse City Courthouse Bell Ringing Again After Six Years

The bells of a historic Traverse City Courthouse ringing out for the first time in 6 years.

Safety concerns quieted the bell back in 2009. After several years of funds for repairs being cut from the county budget, a group of citizens began privately raising money to fix it. Today they came together to celebrate the first step in that project — getting it ringing.

While they still need funds to ensure them ringing, they say it’s exciting to see a piece of traverse city history coming back to life.

Committee Chair W. Peter Doren says, “Preserving all of the courthouse has been a major community effort and goal throughout all those years. This is just something now that needs to be further restored, further maintained so it will keep ringing and keep ticking.”

The group still needs to $40,000. If you’d like to find out how to donate, click here.
