Opening Arguments Begin For Colorado Movie Theater Shooting
Opening arguments begin today in the case against James Holmes, the man accused of opening fire at a Colorado movie theater.
He’s accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70.
Police say Holmes started firing inside a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises.
He was dressed in body armor, and many people thought he was in a costume as a publicity stunt.
Jurors will have to decide if Holmes was legally insane at the time of the shooting.
Holmes’ lawyers claim their client was having a psychotic episode and is not guilty by reason of insanity.
Holmes’ parents have begged prosecutors to consider taking the death penalty off the table.
