Women Veterans Recognized for Service in Harrison

Female veterans in one Northern Michigan community were honored for their service.

The American Legion post in Harrison invited all women who are veterans and their families over for a very special spaghetti dinner.

They say women have played a growing part in America’s military and have taken on a critical role in recent wars and conflicts.

Saturday not only recognized those efforts, but also attempted to educate people about the history of women in the armed forces.

“Even though it’s in the rears, we do as much as men do when they’re out in the field. It takes one to support the other. We wanted to do something for the women vet’s as well,” said Shelley Hardy, Desert Storm Veteran.

Harrison’s American Legion plans to honor women veterans again in the future.
