Pullar Stadium Competes for Kraft Hockeyville Title

A popular stadium in Sault Ste. Marie is getting some national attention this week.

The Pullar Stadium in Chippewa County is in the running for $150,000 in the Kraft Hockeyville Contest.

The stadium was first built in 1939 needs repairs.

Prize money would help make those rink improvements.

“Winter classic was on and a commercial said nominate your rink, I thought this is the best thing to happen to the Pullar it’s in need of some upgrades and needs to be recognized,” said Ron Maleport, President of Soo Printing Company.

And that thought.. spearheaded a frenzy in the Soo.
The community is exploding with town spirit, and they want this win.

“We just thought oh my God…. this town just erupted. There’s not enough dollars out there for advertising.. This small town has gotten all this national attention its not even about the Soo anymore it’s about Michigan; let’s bring Kraft Hockeyville to the Pullar Stadium,” said Linda Hoath, Executive Director of the Sault Area CVB.

“The Pullar is historic with a lot of tradition… the Redwings used to hold training camp here, there’s a lot of pride and tradition,” said Alex Sawruk, Associate Coach of the Soo Eagles.

The Pullar Stadium is a special place for many here in the Soo, and throughout Michigan. The upgrades they would get from winning, and to host a preseason NHL game would be a game changer.

“This is just what Pullar needed were right in the middle of community fundraising to fix up the pullar,” said Maleport.

The next stop is to get to the top two arenas in the country.
Voting ends at midnight and you can vote up to 50 times per device.
