New Water Bill Assistance Program Promised Help for Detroit Residents

A new water bill assistance program promises to help those with low income living in Detroit.

It comes before plans to resume shutoffs of delinquent residential accounts start back up in May.

The new fund calls to pay for 50 percent of eligible customers’ overdue bills.

About 29,000 residential accounts in the city are believed to be delinquent.

Accounts targeted in the upcoming shutoffs are those that are more than 60 days late or $150 behind.
