Crystal Clear Lake Water Reveals Hidden Shipwrecks

The post-winter, crystal clear waters of Lake Michigan uncovered some hidden history.

The fascinating and beautiful sight was discovered by a Traverse City Coast Guard crew.

The pictures they took show shipwrecks lying on the lake bottom in the waters off Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

The helicopter crew was on a routine patrol when they spotted the wrecks Friday.

The shallow waters near Leelanau Peninsula, known as Manitou Passage, are the site of many 19th and 20th century shipwrecks.
