Former Blackwater Security Guard Sentenced to Life in Prison

A federal judge sentenced a former Blackwater security guard to life in prison.

Nicholas Slatten received the sentence for his role in a shooting that killed 14 Iraqi civilians–and wounded 17 others.

Three other guards were also sentenced to 30 years and one day in prison.

Their charges included manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and using firearms while committing a felony.

The sentence came Monday after defense lawyers argued for leniency, while prosecutors wanted harsher punishments.
