Northern Michigan Prison Workers Lose Jobs Due to New System

Northern Michigan prison workers are losing their jobs as Michigan eliminates three regional prison stores.

The Department of Corrections says about 30 workers will be out of jobs due to a new system.

Prisoners at Kinross Correctional Facility, in the Upper Peninsula, will now be able to purchase toiletries and other items through electronic kiosks and a vendor will send the goods through secure packages.

Employees affected by the change may apply for other department jobs.
