New Legislation Looks to Create Human Milk Banks in Michigan

You could soon see human milk banks in the state of Michigan.

That’s if one bill proposed by a state lawmaker is passed.

Representative Erika Geiss introduced her legislation Monday.

It sets standards for human milk banks.

Representative Geiss says giving breast milk, either from the mother or another source, to premature infants has significant short and long term effects.

With 7.1 deaths per live births, Michigan has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation.
