Feedback at 5:00 Public Schools Observing Religious Holidays

Public schools in New York City will observe two Muslim holidays for the first time.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the system will close for the holidays starting next September.

1.1 million students are educated by the New York Public School system.

Mayor de Blasio says now hundreds of thousands of Muslim families in the system won’t have to choose between sending their kids to school or observing the holiday.

But others argue public schools shouldn’t observe any religious holidays.

The school already recognizes a handful of Jewish and Christian holidays.

For tonight’s Feedback at 5:00  we’re asking if you agree or disagree with observing these holidays at public schools.

Why or why not?
