Benzie’s Aaron Whaley blocking his way into the record books

BENZONIA – With his 190th block last week, Benzie Central senior center Aaron Whaley recently surpassed the school’s all-time career blocked shots record, and with at least two weeks left in the season, he’s still adding to his impressive total.

Whaley blocked 103 shots last season, including a eye-popping 14 blocks in one game that is tied for the 9th-most in a single game in state history.

He is also closing in a Top 20 all-time finish in state history.

However, he told Shannon McGrattan that he’s had the school’s blocks record on his mind for quite some time now.

“It was awesome,” Whaley said.  “I’ve been going after that record since I started blocking a large number of shots in my sophomore year.”

“I got that last one.  It wasn’t just a volleyball spike, like some of them have been, but the stands just erupted.”
