NY Commuter Train Crashes Into SUV Stopped on Tracks

At least seven people are dead, nearly a dozen others injured after a commuter train slammed into an SUV in New York.

A transit official says the north-bound train hit a Jeep Cherokee that was stopped on the tracks at the height of the evening rush Tuesday.

The crash sparked an explosion and a fire.

The train dragged the car about 400-feet down the tracks with hundreds of commuters on board.

Others escaped the charred front cars of the train by jumping into the snow below.

“You get out of the train, it’s freezing cold out and then you realize how fortunate you are.”

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board will be on the scene this morning, trying to figure out what happened.
