Kalkaska Man Killed in Huron County Construction Accident

A Kalkaska County man died Thursday while working at a road construction site in Huron County.

Deputies say a man from Bad Axe driving a pickup truck hit construction flagman Nathan Hayden on M-142 in Verona Township.

The impact threw Hayden 75 feet — and he landed near a guardrail on the opposite side of the road.

Hayden, who was from Kalkaska, later died at the hospital.

Deputies say the driver of the truck wasn’t hurt.

The road was closed for several hours as they investigated what happened. It’s unclear if the driver of the truck will face charges.
