UPDATE: Man Accused of Two Kalkaska County Murders
9&10’s Brittany Wright was LIVE in Kalkaska County at the courthouse where Keith Ferguson was formally charged on Wednesday.
During his hearing he was very uncooperative and clearly agitated.
The judge had to tell him multiple times to quiet down and be respectful.
“What else are you going to set as a $10 million one. I’m already ******, alright stop.”
Those were some of the words Keith Ferguson uttered today in court.
He’s accused of murdering his wife and father-in-law, Tiffany’s father.
And holding another woman hostage.
The judge had to ask him multiple times to not interrupt.
“Alright stop. He took them to grandpas house where he murdered them by shooting him several times in front of his children.”
At one point he turned to the audience, swore at them, and made obscene gestures.
“The fact that the suspect already murdered and murdered multiple people and fled and took hostage there is no doubt in my mind he has a risk of not appearing in court,” said Milke Perreault, Kalkaska County Prosecutor.
According to court records, Keith Ferguson admitted to a domestic violence in 1999.
Tiffany Ferguson filed for divorce in September.
A custody hearing was scheduled for Friday.
The judge ordered Ferguson have no contact with his kids or the woman he held hostage.
And he’s being held on $10 million bond.
Ferguson will be back in court next week.
Northern Michigan’s News Leader has more details on a still developing investigation into two deadly shootings in Kalkaska County.
The man accused of killing two people has been formally charged with the crimes. Keith Ferguson is charged with 12 felonies including open murder. Ferguson was uncooperative in court Wednesday afternoon.
A woman, a local mom recently voted mother of the year by the local newspaper, is one of the victims. The sheriff says Ferguson killed her, and another man — and held a third person hostage.
We are following the investigation from every angle.
The sheriff says Ferguson shot the woman at a home in Cold Springs Township. Then, he’s accused of killing a man at an Excelsior Township home with his children in tow. They ran to a neighbor’s home for help, which is when they also reported their mother had been killed.
In the meantime, Ferguson took another person hostage in Orange Township.
The sheriff says the deadly shootings happened around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Police finally got Ferguson to surrender around 3:30 Wednesday morning. The hostage wasn’t hurt.
Eric Lloyd has been in Kalkaska County for hours. He’s live with what we know right now, including details on the victims.
Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office is still piecing together what happened Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
40-year-old Keith Ferguson has been arrested for the murder of Tiffany Ferguson and her father Jim Webber and then holding a hostage and police in a stand off for seven-plus hours.
Police say the suspect is married to Tiffany, but Tiffany had filed for divorce in September and that’s about the only motive police have on why he did this.
Tiffany was well known in the area even being named Mother of the Year, two years ago in the community.
The couple had four kids with a custody hearing scheduled for Friday, as the couple went through their divorce.
The four kids were not harmed in the entire situation but actually notified police on what they say their father did to their mother and grandfather.
For awhile Tuesday night there was a very dangerous man on the loose.
And that’s not something police around here are used to but something they have had to deal with in the past.
“Well it’s it’s not something that happens every day but it does happen there’s been many situations where this sort of thing occurs so it’s it’s not the norm for up north michigan but it does happen,”
Ferguson was formally charged Wednesday afternoon on 12 felony charges including homicide, home invasion, possession of bombs, felony firearms and kidnapping.
The names of the victims were confirmed by several family friends.
We will have team coverage with the latest tonight on 9&10 News at 5:00 and 6:00.
