Fees Could Go Up at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Fees could soon go up at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
The park in Leelanau and Benzie counties is asking for public opinion on raising the fees for certain things at sleeping bear.
The park entrance pass would go up five dollars, the annual park entrance pass would go up 10 dollars and camping about 4 dollars.
The increase is part of a push by The National Park Service to standardize fees across the country.
“We truly do want to provide the kind of services people expect when they come to this park and we’re hoping that with this fee increase, if it’s supported, we would be able to provide even more and better services for people,” said Merrith Baughman, Chief of Interpretation and Visitor Services of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
The money would be used for things like more law enforcement in the park, more ranger programs, and increased services in the campgrounds.
The issue is open for public comment until December 8th. You can send in comments online or mail it to the Sleepy Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
A decision will be made in the spring.
