U.S. General Killed in Attack in Afghanistan

An American general is among the dead after a man believed to be an Afghan soldier attacked a military base.

Rear Admiral John Kirby says the suspect who fired into a group of international soldiers was then killed.

The attack took place at Camp Qargha, a training base near Kabul.

Major General Harold Greene, the highest ranking Army officer in Iraq or Afghanistan, was killed in the attack.

The shooter also injured 15 people, half of them were Americans.

A German brigadier general was also wounded.

Admiral Kirby says this does not signal a break-down of confidence in Afghan forces, and it will not have an impact on the troop drawdown.

“I’ve seen no indication that there is a degradation of trust between coalition members and their Afghan counterparts, their cooperation gets better and better every week,” said Admiral Kirby
