Small Plane Runs Off Manistee Blacker Airport Runway

A small engine airplane ran off the runway at the Manistee Blacker Airport around 3:30 p.m. today.

The Manistee Blacker Airport says part of the runway is closed, but the main runway remains open and business is operating as usual.

The Manistee County Sheriff says the place was unable to gain altitude and went down after the nose clipped the airport fence. The plane slid into a wooded area and hit some trees.

The plane is a total loss.

Manistee County Sheriff says four passengers were on board. Two of them were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The airport says the plane was leaking fuel. There was no fire but the fire department was on the scene to monitor the situation.

It is still unclear what lead to the accident.
