Michigan’s Same-Sex Marriage Ban Challenged in Sixth Circuit

Michigan is among the states whose ban on same sex marriage will be challenged in federal court Wednesday.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati will also hear cases on the constitutionality of bans in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Attorneys for the gay couples involved in the case say their clients have the right to marry under the U.S. Constitution, but not everyone agrees. Some say this goes against American values.

All four states have received favorable rulings on same-sex marriage in lower courts.

We will have continuing coverage on the hearings as they progress.
