Coast Guard Parachute Rigger Celebrates 90th Birthday
Dolores Schybilske joined the Coast Guard in 1942 after graduation and now she is celebrating her 90th birthday.
The young Coast Guard Petty Officer Third Class would soon be caught up in the whirlwind of the war effort as a parachute rigger.
The Coast Guard holds all its veterans in high regard, but there’s a special connection with Dolores. After all she’s one of only 20 women in this branch of the military who rated as a parachute rigger.
Many times she worked only in the company of men.
And the month and day of her birthday are the same as the Coast Guard’s August 4th.
She joined at age 20 when the U.S. Coast Guard celebrated its 154th birthday.
