Arenac County Woman’s Lottery Ticket Wins Thousands

An 18-year-old woman went into a northern Michigan store for hot dog buns, and came out with a lottery ticket worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Maranda Coffey, Arenac County, bought a winning ticket in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash For Life game.

She claimed her prize Friday, choosing a lump sum of $442,000 before taxes.

Coffey bought the ticket at Dore’s Party Store in Whittemore.

She also works at the store, which means customers now are asking her to touch their lottery tickets for luck.

Coffey says she plans to buy a house and invest the rest of her windfall.
