Mecosta County Rave Party Busted, Some Hospitalized
Law enforcement in Mecosta County was busy last night.
Around 11:00 p.m. they were called to Hinton Township on a complaint of multiple cars parked on the roadway on 70th Avenue. The Sheriff’s Office says it turned out to a large rave party at a residence.
Deputies say more than 2,000 young people were there, and most under the legal drinking age of 21. Police say word of the part, called Project P, spread through social media.
First responders from Mecosta and Montcalm Counties were on scene treating victims of drug and alcohol related injuries and overdoses.
Eight goers, including one man who fell from a barn and broke his neck, were taken to hospitals in Lakeview, Mt. Pleasant, and Big Rapids.
While they were there, deputies also investigated a sexual assault of a 19-year-old Mt. Pleasant woman in a vehicle at the party.
Deputies say they will seek multiple charges against the organizers of the event and the resident of the property where the rave took place.
Police are still investigating, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.
9&10’s Eric Lloyd spoke with the sheriff about dealing with so much chaos and has more details.
