Big Rapids Man Found Floating In Muskegon River, Dies at Hospital

A man is dead following a fall into a Northern Michigan river.

The river drowning happened in Osceola Park in Big Rapids just after 12:00 Thursday morning.

Police say the man was drinking at the park when he wandered off.

That’s when police say he fell down an embankment and into the Muskegon River.

His friend saw the fall and called 9-1-1.

Emergency crews responded and revived him, but he later died at a Grand Rapids hospital.

“It’s sad that an individuals life is lost due to alcohol. There’s nothing suspicious at this point that we believe led to his death,” said Detective Brian Miller of the Big Rapids Police Department.

An autopsy was performed Thursday afternoon. His name is being withheld until family is notified.
