Marine Training For Probationary Conservation Officers On Higgins Lake
Training never stops for those in law enforcement, especially when you’re new to the job.
A group of probationary conservation officers are going through basic marine training this week on Higgins Lake.
23 officers graduated from recruit school last month and now have a year of back to back training and exercises.
The officers are doing small boat handling skills and man overboard exercises. The trainers say living in Michigan, this session is really important to tackle.
“Our officers need to be able to handle the boats safely. It’s much like a precision driving course, only this is on the water with buoys,” says Sgt. John Meka, Department of Natural Resources.
The probationary officers will be tested on their marine abilities tomorrow and then move on to tribal cultural training for the rest of this week.
