Sault Ste Marie City Commissioner Arrested For Child Pornography

Neighbors in Sault Ste Marie are upset to hear about the child pornography arrest of a city official.

A Sault Ste Marie city commissioner is in jail, accused of having child pornography on his computer.

Police arrested Jeffrey Stefanski Monday in Sault Ste Marie, Chippewa County.

The sheriff’s department says the discovery about the city commissioner came from a tip back in December.

They say a search of Stefanski’s two homes led to evidence of child pornography on his computers.

Investigators do not believe the pornography is linked to any local children.

They say these cases have become too common.

“It’s always scary to have this in your community, but to have it an elected official, it certainly bring more attention to it,” says Chippewa County Sheriff Robert Savoie.

City Manager Oliver Turner says the city has not reviewed the charges against Stefanski, but when it does, the city commission will take appropriate action.
