National Guard Could Be Sent to Mexican Border

The Obama administration is looking at whether or not the National Guard should deploy to help with the crisis at the Mexican border.

A White House official says they are working closely with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. They’re trying to figure out how to respond to the number of unaccompanied immigrant children coming into the country.

57,000 children have come into this country illegally since October. Fewer than 2,000 have been sent back.

The DHS has yet to make a request for assistance.

If they decide they need support, the decision would be made the Secretary of Defense.
