UPDATE: Big Rapids Wendy’s Security Breach Impacts Hundreds of Credit Card Holders

Police in Big Rapids are warning residents and visitors who stopped at a Wendy’s Restaurant to check their bank accounts after several people have reported credit card fraud over the past week.

Detective Brian Miller says hundreds of people have been affected.

The Wendy’s restaurant on South State Street in Big Rapids had a security breach. The breach was fixed July 15. Police still want to know if anyone else is impacted.

Wendy’s franchisees say they are cooperating fully with police and are doing everything they can to help the investigation. “Wendy’s has been a part of Big Rapids community for 29 years and our customers are very important to us. We are taking this matter very seriously, and we sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been impacted by this unfortunate situation.”

Big Rapids police say people who paid at Wendy’s with a credit card should check their accounts for charges they didn’t do and contact police and their bank immediately. If you have questions or concerns whether your credit card information may have been impacted, please contact your credit card provider.

They say many of the unauthorized purchases are from out of state, so it’s clear it was not done by the cardholder.

Banks have been very cooperative with reimbursing money.

If you have any information or would like to let police know you are a victim, please call Big Rapids police at 231-527-0005.
