Midland Man Dies in New York Plane Crash

A mid-Michigan man is one of three who died in a weekend plane crash in the Adirondack Mountains.

The plane crashed Saturday morning after attempting to land in North Elba, New York.

Reed Phillips of Midland died in the crash.

The pilot, Fred Kafka of West Virginia, and his daughter, Kathleen, also died.

Police say Kafka initially approached the runway in the wrong direction. On another approach, the plane stalled and crashed.

The accident is still under investigation.
