Michigan Receiving $200K to Assist Recreational Boaters
Michigan is one of 21 states to get federal grant money to help boaters get rid of on-board septic waste.
Michigan is receiving $200,000 as part of the $16.6 million given nationally under the Clean Vessel Act Program, run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The service’s Midwest Regional Office has used the Clean Vessel Act Program money for new pump-out equipment and reimbursement for materials.
Some states also installed floating restrooms where boaters congregate and no restrooms are available.
Funding is generated through excise taxes on fishing tackle manufacturers, motorboats and small engines.
