St. Joseph County Deputies Search for Possible Drowning Victim

A search has been happening all weekend for a man believed to have drowned in a river in Saint Joseph County.

The undersheriff says the 65-year-old man and his son were fishing around 10 p.m. Saturday night on the St. Joseph River.

Deputies say sometime between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., the victim stood up and the boat went under.

Both men fell in the water.

The son tried to save his dad, but the current was too strong.

Dive teams got to the scene quickly, and close to 50 volunteers were on hand for the search.

Deputies say they are concentrating on a 500-yard stretch of the river, which can be up to 14-feet deep.
