UPDATE: Israeli Soldier Step Up Ground Offensive

Israeli troops are stepping up their ground offensive in the Gaza strip, which is controlled by Hamas right now.

Last night Israel sent soldiers across the border and into the Gaza strip for an offensive operation.

Israel says it’ll be a limited offensive, not an occupation. Their plan is to destroy tunnels used by Palestinian militants to infiltrate Israeli territory.

Israel launched the attack after becoming angry with unrelenting rocket fire from Gaza on their cities.

So far the Israeli troops have only moved into the northern Gaza strip. It’s unclear if they’ll move any further south, but air strikes continued all day.

“Israel, if they have one or two or three bad days, they could be gone as a country. Every day is a day of survival for them and we cannot allow Hamas to be carrying out these attacks from Gaza,” said Representative Peter King (R), New York.

The length of the ground attack is unclear, but Hamas is not giving in.

Today marks the eleventh day of fighting between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers.

The Israeli military says a soldier has been killed in a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.

The circumstances of his death are still not clear.

It’s the first military death since the start of a ground operation in Gaza, late Thursday.

Israel launched the attack after becoming angry with unrelenting rocket fire from Gaza on its cities.

Israel’s air strikes on Gaza has killed more than 240 Palestinians.

Jordan has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

But, no time has been set, because the council is already scheduled to hold an emergency meeting this morning, on the Malaysian Airliner in Ukraine.
