Only Victims of Initial GM Ignition Switch Recall Eligible for Compensation
Only certain victims of the deadly ignition switch issue at General Motors are eligible for a payout.
GM set up the fund for the families of those who died or victims injured in one of the 2.6 million vehicles recalled in February.
However, money from the fund is not being offered to victims of later June recalls of 11.6 million cars.
GM says it’s because they are two different problems. The first one is a flaw with the ignition switch itself, the second has problems with the key.
Victims not eligible for the compensation fund can still sue the automaker.
