Excitement Fills Mecosta County Free Fair

Traverse City isn’t the only place celebrating summer.

It’s county fair season across Northern Michigan.

This week is Mecosta County’s Agricultural Free Fair in Big Rapids.

The fair includes 4-H youth project and livestock exhibits.

But the main attraction for many is the midway, open every day until 11:00 p.m.

There are also major grand stand events.

Organizers hope the fair is a fun time for those participating in events, and those just out to have a good time.

“The carnivals one thing, looking at the livestock, lots of food, and lots of fun. We got the Demolition Derby Saturday night, truck and tractor pulls tonight and SGAO Show Motocross Friday night,” said John Currie who is now in his 44th year as Fair Manager.

The fair runs through Saturday, rounding out the week of events with a Demolition Derby at 7:00 p.m.
