UPDATE: Peterson to Request Conviction be Thrown Out

A man serving life in prison for killing a northern Michigan woman will ask the judge to throw out his 16 year old conviction.

Jamie Peterson was charged with the 1996 rape and murder of Geraldine Montgomery.

Lawyers from the University of Michigan’s Innocence Clinic will be back in the courtroom Wednesday.

They say Peterson’s conviction was based on false statements made during police interviews.

Recently, DNA evidence led to charges against Jason Ryan.

But state police say that does not free Peterson from his charges.

Ryan’s trial is scheduled for December.
