Bellaire Barber Retires and Gives Back

Ron Damer’s been cutting hair for 50 years, the last 43 in Bellaire.

But the day has come for him to hang up his clippers.

On his last day today, Damer decided to clip for a cause and donate all the money he earned to a local youth group looking to take a mission trip to Belize.

Damer has seen the best and worst hair styles make their way through Bellaire since he opened in 1971.

He has made friends with his customers with his barber chair becoming a town meeting place and a makeshift therapist’s chair.

He says the connections he made with people made his job worth it for 50 years and that’s why he decided to give every cent earned today to the youth group.

9&10’s Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jacob Johnson spoke with him as he finished out his last day and have more details.
