Traverse City Hit and Run Accident Leaves One Man Injured

A 21-year-old Ann Arbor man was critically hurt early Sunday in an accident in a Traverse City alley, and the vehicle involved left the scene.

City Police say the accident happened at 2:30 a.m. in the south alley of the 100 block of East Front Street, just east of the Union Street Station Bar.

A witness tells police the occupants of a dark colored SUV were talking to a group of people near the alley. He then saw a man running alongside the SUV as it left the alley.

He says the victim fell and tumbled next to the moving car as it continued toward Cass Street.

The witness believes the SUV had four or five people in it, with the driver and passenger both being male African American.

A vehicle part was found near the scene, and police now believe the vehicle was a dark metallic blue Chevrolet or GMC SUV, possibly a Tahoe or Yukon, which is missing a driver’s side door handle.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the incident, should contact Traverse City Police at (231) 947-TIPS (8477).
