Corn Farmers See Various Heights in Field Before Holiday
Corn farmers across Northern Michigan are seeing various heights in the field before the Fourth of July milestone.
The holiday is when farmers hope to see stalks knee high, but with the late start to the season farmers are seeing a little bit of everything.
Edgecomb Farms in Traverse City is feeling good about their corn. Right now, it’s knee high or taller.
Owner Brent Edgecomb says the weather has been balanced and helped their corn grow quite well.
Across the county at Wagner Farms in Grawn, their corn is running a few weeks behind. The height of their corn is knee high or shorter.
Wagner Farms is looking for more heat to get them on track and possibly catch up to where they need to be.
9&10’s Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Jacob Johnson spoke with the two farms about where their corn stands.
