Appeals Court Upholds Rejection of Gas Well Drilling Near State Forest

A Michigan appeals court agrees gas drilling should not be allowed on private land surrounded by state forest.

The court upheld the decision to reject permits for drilling on land near Vanderbilt.

The 11 proposed wells would be at Song of the Morning Ranch within Pigeon River Country State Forest.

The court says state restrictions on drilling apply, even if the land is privately owned.

One of the well sites was turned down by regulators because it was too close to the Pigeon River.
