Numbers Go Up for TBAYS Soccer League
“It’s the most popular sport in the world, it’s becoming the most popular sport in the states,” said Roy Montney, Vice President of Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer Club.
With team USA making a good run in the World cup, soccer enthusiasts say the sport appears to be on the rise.
He’s seeing it with his own eyes, happening this summer with some of the T-BAY soccer camps becoming more popular than ever.
One of the organizers of T-BAY says in the past they would get around 80 or 90 kids coming to their summer camp, but last week they had 147 kids show.
T-BAY has also had to add five additional teams to their North Storm program because so many kids are wanting to join.
“Well you see kids getting started to play earlier that’s because they start to play on the play ground they start to get more into it, with the world cup this year, they’re getting into it and parents are getting into it so they go out and play with their friends they’ll play at school they’ll play in the neighborhood and as that happens then they start to play on a team or they get into a program,” said Roy Montney, Vice President of Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer Club.
Organizers say the biggest one thats growing is the juniors, which includes kids in Pre-k up to 1st grade.
