Marinas Hoping Holiday Weekend Kicks Off Busy Season

Marinas are hoping the weather holds out this weekend to help get more people out on the water.

It was a struggle to get boats in the water in Houghton Lake this spring because of a cold, rainy start to the season that caused many to fall behind. A few months later, summer is here and marinas are hoping business keeps increasing through the summer.

Brian’s Lakeside Marina has high hopes for the Fourth of July weekend. This time of year is typically a busy time for them, and after a slow start they’re ready for lots of business.

They are already booked solid on boat rentals and transient slips, which is a trend they hope continues through the season.

Across the water at Houghton Lake Marina, they’re seeing a lot of business in service ahead of the holiday weekend.

The marina says July is a critical month for their business as most people vacation during that time.

9&10’s Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Jeff Blevins spoke with two marinas about their expectations for the season.
