Search Continues for Griffin in Lake Michigan

An underwater archaeologist says shipwreck debris in northern Lake Michigan is “encouraging,” but they cannot yet confirm if it is in fact the Griffin, a 17th century ship.

Search crews pulled a 20 foot wooden beam from the site near Green Bay, Wisconsin a year ago, but concluded it was not part of the ship’s wreckage.

Expedition leader Steve Libert believes a debris field has been found in the same area is the Griffin.

Experts say artifacts found nearby need to provide an exact date before it can be confirmed.
