High Lake Superior Water Levels Force Soo Locks Outflow to Increase
Lake Superior’s water levels are forcing Soo Locks operators to increase outflow through the gates.
The International Lake Superior Board of Control is warning anglers to beware of the changing flow and water levels at the head of the St. Mary’s Rapids. They’ll be increasing the water flow on Wednesday.
The water is expected to flood some low-lying areas of Whitefish Island, damaging some recreational areas.
Lake Superior is more than 6 inches above average.
Downstream, lakes Michigan and Huron are 5.5 inches below average.
